Brent Bode

brentBrent comes to CRI after completing his graduate work in Exercise & Sports Studies at Smith College, while coaching scholastic novice and varsity crews for Northampton Youth & Community Rowing Inc. In his earlier years he was an active adolescent devoted to success in cycling and alpine skiing. His need for speed gained momentum in his early 20’s when he moved to Canada to drive and teach auto racing at the Bridgestone Racing Academy. He spent several years in pursuit of a career in motorsport and eventually landed in Indianapolis as an IndyCar mechanic at Derrick Walker Racing. Life was demanding on the road, and it became evident that 6am daily breakfasts at Denny’s and 70-hour work weeks were not sustainable. After a serendipitous return to college, Brent discovered that his need for speed and fascination with human performance would combine to become the passion of a fervent collegiate rowing career at Dowling College. He fortuitously landed a seat in Dowling’s acclaimed ‘96 lightweight 8+ (2004 Team of the Year), and was an early part of Dowling College Crew’s rise to top honors at the Dad Vails. That success was closely backed up by a bronze medal at the Indoor World Rowing Championships (Crash-B’s). Brent’s rowing philosophy is simple: Sit down, be quiet, and pull on the stick as hard as you can.
