
Coach Hanig joined CRI in the spring of 2009, and works primarily with the logbook and pre-logbook scullers. He also is currently the Varsity Girls Head Coach for Wayland- Weston and over the past year has lead the team to both Fall and Spring State Championships, as well as three crews to the USRowing Youth National Championship Regatta. Coach Hanig spent two years at Colgate University where he was the Raiders’ Assistant Coach of Men’s Rowing. During his tenure at Colgate a number of crews placed in the top 12 at the IRA National Championships and earned medals at the Dad Vail regatta. He launched his rowing career at Spackenkill High School in Poughkeepsie, NY, where he was a four-year letter winner, two-year team captain, and Mid Hudson Athletic League Academic All Star. He was a member of the Hudson River Rowing Association, competed in the Head of the Charles Regatta, as well as in the Empire State Games where his Junior 4+ won a silver medal. After graduation, he continued rowing at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in 2006. Highlights of his four years of Minuteman rowing include three years on the varsity and being elected team President of UMass Men’s Rowing in his junior and senior years, also serving as Assistant Coach in 2005-2006. He is a member of the UMass Alumni Rowing Association and can regularly be seen rowing his single out of CRI.
