Steve Fiske, head women’s rowing coach at Boston College, has over 18 years of coaching experience in both sweep rowing and sculling. His coaching spans from leading highly competitive collegiate rowers to victory at major regattas, to coaching first-time and recreational rowers at Craftsbury Sculling Camp in Vermont.
Coach Fiske has a pragmatic and patient approach to coaching and has enjoyed success with athletes at all levels. He believes that anyone can develop into a proficient rower, no matter their age, shape or size. He has a proven track record of maximizing the potential in the rowers he works with.
In his ten seasons as head coach and program director at Boston College, Fiske’s accomplishments have included leading the Eagles to win a number of prestigious races including the Dad Vail Championship, the Big East Championship, the New England Rowing Championship, and the Knecht Cup. Under his leadership the Eagles were invited as permanent members of the highly selective Eastern Sprints Championship (EAWRC), and competed for the first time in BC rowing’s history in the Women’s Henley and Royal Henley Regattas. He has also been named Big East Coach of the Year (2005) and New England Coach of the Year (2001).
Fiske’s own rowing career began at Fordham University where he was a member of some of the university’s most successful crews. This included finishing among the top heavyweight men at the CRASH-B Indoor rowing championships and leading his team to wins in a number of major regatta’s including the San Diego Crew Classic and the IRA Regatta. Following his collegiate rowing career, Fiske rowed competitively at the New York Athletic Club (NYAC) for eight years where he won five national titles for the club in both sweep and sculling events. He went on to coach both men and women at Fordham for seven years prior to his tenure at BC.
In his spare time, you’ll find Steve staying in shape sculling, on the erg and running, on the golf course, or enjoying time with his family.
