Thanks to the generous support of many families and friends associated with Community Rowing, George visited with various rowing organizations across America to help spread the word about CRI’s adaptive training and learn about other, similar programs.

Here’s an article about George’s adventure at the RAGBRAI in Iowa:

CRI has some more new sculling boats! Last year, we introduced eight new Alden’s to the fleet, along with four sets of new blades. This year we have FOUR NEW SINGLES and FOUR NEW DOUBLES from Vespoli along with six sets of new blades that are either here now or on the way! VERY VERY EXCITING!

After wide ranging input from a broad cross section of the community, this is what the CRI Board learned through the discussion to date:

#1 - we should use the new boats as an opportunity not to change our standards - we already have the most rigorous Captain’s Test on the River - but to increase the communication bandwidth between scullers and people who maintain equipment

#2 - new rowing shells are for EVERYONE, competitive or not. The test to use the equipment isn’t speed, it is care and respect for the equipment.

To that end, we have a special requirement to row the new boats:

#1 - only people who are Captain’s Tested can use the new boats. One exception - if there are insufficient shells for Sculling 4, a coach may reserve them.

#2 - to use the new boats, your name must appear on a list maintained by Seth. To get your name on the list, you must talk with Seth and go through a refresher course on boat handling and procedures. You must also contribute $10 to the maintenance fund at CRI. Seth may waive the fee at his discretion.
