COMPETITIVE PROGRAM OFFERINGS

Men’s Competitive Team

The competitive men’s team gives adults the opportunity to achieve their competitive goals through a team devoted to improving rowing technique, speed, and sportsmanship. Athletes must be prepared row effectively in a competitive team environment, attend regular team practices, make themselves available for competition and be eager to improve their rowing and fitness level.

Admission is dependent on approval from the Head Coach, and successful completion of fitness assessment. Tryouts are held in the Spring and Fall.

In addition to the regular practice schedule, athletes are expected to complete additional workouts on their own, as well as meet erg and rowing standards. Add-on sculling is also available weekly to athletes who would like additional sculling time.

The Competitive Men’s program frequently participate in local regattas, as well as the Independence Day Regatta, Masters’ Nationals, and the Head of the Charles. Travel expenses, as well as regatta and trailer fees are not included in the listed price of the comp men’s and women’s program, and rowers will be responsible for these costs during the course of the season, as is applicable.

Women’s Competitive Team

The competitive women’s team gives adults the opportunity to achieve their competitive goals through a team devoted to improving rowing technique, speed, and sportsmanship. Athletes must be prepared row effectively in a competitive team environment, attend regular team practices, make themselves available for competition and be eager to improve their rowing and fitness level. The team is typically comprised of about 30-40 open and masters women ranging in age from early 20s up into the 60s.

Admission is dependent on approval from the Head Coach, and successful completion of fitness assessment. Tryouts are held the first three weeks of the spring season (from March 29 to April 16). While there will be an additional tryout period in late August or early September, the competitive women’s team usually requires a full-year commitment (from late March to late October).

In addition to the regular practice schedule, athletes are expected to complete additional workouts on their own, as well as meet erg and rowing standards, which will be age- and weight-adjusted. Add-on sculling is also available weekly to athletes who would like additional sculling time.

In 2010, the Competitive Women’s team plans to participate in a number of local regattas, as well as US Rowing Masters’ Nationals, FISA World Masters, and the Head of the Charles. Travel expenses, as well as regatta and trailer fees, are not included in the listed price of the program, and rowers will be responsible for these costs during the course of the season, as is applicable.
