Sculling programs are the best way to take control of your Charles River experience! Come and glide through the water in a personal rowing boat! Begin with Sculling 1 and get an introduction to the sport in our stable training boats. Next take sculling 2 where you will transition from the trainers and build on your skills. In Sculling 3 you will be rowing in team boats and see parts of the river you have never been! Finally enroll in sculling 4 to refine your technique and take the Captain’s Test to become a “free range” sculler eligible to participate in CRI’s Logbook Sculling program where you will have access to single person club boats to take out on your own. Sculling I
Always wanted to try sculling in a single? Up to the exciting challenge of rowing your own boat, steering your own course, and powering your own progress?
Learn to row in a single, no experience necessary! Class members will begin indoors, learning the rowing and safety basics required to be out on the river. Then the class will progress into Alden singles, designed to be stable and safe for beginners.

Sculling II
Develop the skills you learned in Sculling I, navigate the Charles River, and move one step closer to passing your CRI Captains’ Test!
Designed as a continuation of Sculling I, participants are expected to have completed Sculling I successfully (or an equivalent program). The class will progress downstream to Northeastern, and participants will have the opportunity to move out of the Aldens and in to the “B boats” during the class.

Sculling III
Looking to hone your sculling skills in team boats? Excited to move faster, row better, and progress faster? Join Sculling III and share the thrill of sculling with other athletes in 2x’s and 4x’s!
This program is for students who have successfully completed Sculling I & II (or an equivalent program), and who are excited to sharpen their sculling in doubles and quads! Classes row to Northeastern, and regular attendance is required so that all class members can be boated. Developing good rowing technique will be the main focus of the class.

Sculling IV
Sculling IV is designed to help participants prepare for the CRI Captains’ Test, and is designed for athletes who are confident in “B Boats” and eager to row in the “A Boat” racing shells. The class will begin with a skill review in B Boats and quickly progress to A Boats, where participants will sharpen their rowing skills and gain confidence on the river. Many students will be administered the Captains’ Test during the class, after which point they will be free to do logbook sculling independently.
Full Captain’s Test will be administered, which requires thorough knowledge of Charles River bridges and navigation, as well as the demonstration of rowing proficiency

Logbook Sculling
Logbook sculling is available to rowers who have passed the CRI Captain’s test and are cleared to row CRI club singles on an independent schedule. Oars and boats are available on a first-come first-served basis. A separate 2x bowing approval is required for doubles, as determined by CB Sands-Bohrer or Ethan Curren.

Logbook Coached Sessions
For any independent sculler seeking feedback on the water. This program is the best way for a logbook or private boat owner to get coaching. Five meetings times per week. Three sessions are for competitive minded scullers and two for recreational.
