National Team Development

US Senior and Para Team Development Camp at CRI — All Athletes Welcome

Community Rowing, Inc. in Boston is pleased to announce coaching and training support for athletes training for the US Senior and Para National Team. CRI will accept applications from athletes on a rolling basis. 

Athletes will be trained for competition at National Selection Regattas, US Elite Nationals, US National Team Trials, and selected other regattas.

CRI offers:

  • No program fees athletes—coaching, boat storage, and indoor training all provided at no cost for HPG athletes
  • Guidance from a team of experienced coaches with a strong track record of helping athletes make Olympic boats for the United States
  • State-of-the-art indoor training facilities, including an air-conditioned weight room, sliders, dynamic ergs, and altitude training equipment
  • All new fleet of para hull and pontoons, with customized equipment support onsite
  • The latest boat and oar technology, including Smart Oars, Powerview, access to the latest shells and boat designs
  • Employment: Community Rowing has several coaching positions available year round that are ideal for US Senior Team candidates. Athletes may also work in administrative roles at CRI on a part-time or hourly basis.
  • Financial aid for athletes traveling to World Championships, based on performance
  • Housing may be available for successful candidates who meet minimum performance requirements.

Training Schedule — 12 Month Schedule

CRI offers training 12 months a year, and the program is designed to give athletes flexibility to work or coach every afternoon. Training starts relatively early every morning and is finished by noon every week day and Saturday; Sunday is off. Depending on participation and individual schedules, training time can be adjusted to accommodate a regular workday schedule.

The training schedule is periodized to maximize performance at the following races:

  • National Selection Regattas
  • US Trials
  • World Championships
  • Rowers may also compete at Royal Henley, Elite National Championships, Canadian Henley, and Head of the Charles 

Selection for US Trials

Selection for entries to US Senior Team Trials and any other events will begin as early as possible. Athletes competing for lightweight entries must weigh in at or below the FISA maximum +0.5 kg daily for results to count. Para athletes must have a US Sport Classification of LTA-PD, LTA-VI, TA, or AS.  Athletes will be evaluated on the water using seat races, Smart Oar, and other data-based methods for evaluating boat speed. Athletes will always be selected on the best data available.

Selection of Camp Crews (LTA 4+)

Selection dates and procedures will be in accordance to the USRowing National Team Selection Procedures.  Athletes must have a US Sport Classification of LTA-PD or LTA-VI prior to participating in CRI Para National Team Development programs.
